Health Department's Administrative Documents

Introduction:

Based on the different needs and regulations of the Worcester Health Department, several managerial criteria needed to be met. Thus, upon request by my Preceptor and other officials, I had to create or update certain administrative documents.

With the regionalization of Worcester public health into a health district, we had the added responsibility of permitting and inspecting Recombinant DNA (rDNA) laboratory facilities in our affiliate towns. Since UMass Medical School has one of these facilities in the town of Shrewsbury, there was the need formalize the process so they could apply for a permit in order for the department to inspect the premises. And for such purposes, I had to create a cover letter and an permit application for the Town of Shrewsbury Health Department.

Moreover, with the need to follow the state’s guidelines pertaining to the regulations of rDNA laboratories, I generated a layout to the steps to take to revise and certify the regulations of the Town of Shrewsbury. Along with this, was an amendment to the specific Board of Health regulations for this affiliated town, which was supposed to be voted on by the city coalition later after completing my practicum. All these artifacts are found below.

Reflections:

Administrators have a lot of different projects that need to look professional. Public health organizations require well-designed information systems in order to make optimal use in managerial decision-making and improving operations in all related areas (Studnicki, 2006). Creating administrative documents provide editorial leadership and technical expertise to improve, produce, and maintain accurate and consistent updates in order to effectively maintain changes and monitor improvements (Studnicki, 2006). By working on this assignment, I acquired knowledge on specific regulations necessary to implement preventive measures in the community.
